FARM QUEEN COMPETITION 2015

Introduction

The Kingston and St. Andrew Association of Branch Societies/Jamaica Agricultural Society sponsors the Farm Queen Competition on an annual basis as one of its major events of the annual Agricultural and Industrial Show, staged in collaboration with RADA St. Andrew.

Date of Show

The Agricultural and Industrial Show is scheduled for May 30, 2015 at the Jamaica College Grounds, 189 Old Hope Road. At this Show the Farm Queen will be crowned and she will go on to represent the parish of Kingston and St. Andrew in the National Farm Queen Competition. This event will be held at the Denbigh Agricultural, Industrial and Food Show in May Pen, Clarendon scheduled for July 31-August 2, 2015.

Awards

The competitors will be competing for the Thelma King Cup among other sectional prizes. All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.

Rules
  1. The Farm Queen Competition will be judged in the areas of Farm Practices, Knowledge in Agriculture, Home Economics and Current Events, as well as Intelligence, Deportment and Poise.
  2. Every contestant should be either a member of a JAS branch, a senior 4H Clubite or a member of a SDC Youth Club, or from a farming community.
  3. Should have attained at the very least a high school certificate.
  4. Should be a resident for at least 2 years in the parish from which she is competing; but should not be confined to the job location. Discretion must be used.
  5. Should be involved in the operation of the home and farm and at the same time have fair knowledge.
  6. The judges’ decisions are final at all levels.
  7. Should not be less than 17 years or more than 25 years at the time of parish judging and who may be single or married.
  8. Should be a Jamaican citizen
  9. Preliminary judging will take place prior to the Show and final judging and presentation at the Parish Show.
  10. The ABS will be responsible for prizes and awards at the parish level.
  11. All Farm Queens both at the branch and parish levels should make themselves available to the service of the Association during her reign.
  12. Any Farm Queen wishing to do any public appearance as a Farm Queen must get approval from the Parish ABS.
  13. All prizes awarded to contestants must be taken up within the time specified.
  14. The judges’ decisions are final at all levels.
